Meat Industry Suppliers Award Scholarships

July 31, 2012
Five scholarships go to students.

The Meat Industry Suppliers Foundation (MISA), a philanthropic organization of the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA), announced winners of its 2012 scholarship program. Of the five winners, four had a perfect grade point average of 4.0 and the fifth weighed in with a 3.9.

As a result, “We decided to award four scholarships of $5,000 instead of the traditional three scholarships that are awarded annually,” said Craig Hess of Speco Inc, chairman of the MISA Foundation. A fifth scholarship award of $10,000 is jointly sponsored by MISA and Siemens Inc.

The winner of the $10,000 MISA/Siemens scholarship is Rebecca Acheson, a Ph.D. candidate at Colorado State University. Ms. Acheson earned her M.S. at Texas Tech University and her B.S. from Kansas State.

The winners of the $5,000 MISA scholarships are: Harrison Bartlett, a junior at Georgia Tech in Biomedical Engineering; Ethan Blom, a senior studying Animal Science at South Dakota State; Simon Kern, a candidate for the M.S. degree in Animal Science at South Dakota State; and Daniel Neely, a junior seeking a degree in Animal Science at Kansas State University.

The application period for the 2013 MISA scholarship program will begin in January. Applications will be available on-line at FPSA.org/meat-industry-suppliers-alliance-misa.
