Ruiz Foods Adds On-Site Health Clinic at Denison, Texas, Processing Plant
Frozen Mexican foods processor Ruiz Foods Products Inc. has opened a health center at the company’s Denison, Texas, processing plant for insured employees and their insured family members. The new, on-site health center replaces an off-site solution that Ruiz employees had been using previously.
This is the second such clinic at a Ruiz facility, with the company’s Florence, S.C., plant having opened a similar center in early November. The company plans to add a health center at its Dinuba, Calif., location in early 2024, according to a statement from Ruiz Foods.
The Ruiz Foods Health Center in Denison is operated by CareATC, and it is staffed by a physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner and two medical assistants. The clinic will provide primary care, including lab tests and chronic health services at no additional cost to those covered by the company’s health insurance.
Matt Ruiz, director of corporate and community relations (and son of co-founder Fred Ruiz), touted the added convenience of having the clinic on-site for its employees as a major benefit to making this investment.
Kimberli Carroll, chief operating officer of Ruiz Foods, said the company believes the clinic can help improve the health of employees and lower the overall cost of care, based on national research showing such an impact.
The health center opened Nov. 20, 2023, and it will feature extended hours two days per week to assist employees who work second and third shifts at the Denison plant.
