La Tortilla Factory Production Moving to Kansas with Shuttering of California Facility

Feb. 13, 2024
Flagship Food Group, which owns a large stake in La Tortilla Factory, attempted to purchase the Santa Rosa property but failed in its attempts and will close the plant at the end of March.

Flagship Food Group has announced it will close the Santa Rosa, Calif., La Tortilla Factory plant and move tortilla operations to Moundridge, Kan., telling local news outlets that it was unable to purchase the property that the factory has been on since 1977. Flagship Food Group owns a large stake in La Tortilla Factory.

The company expects to close the facility March 31, and said in a statement that relocation of operations will allow La Tortilla Factory to expand capacity and continue to manufacture tortillas at “fair prices” for new and existing customers.

The 135 employees at the factory reportedly have been offered severance packages and will receive job search assistance. Some staff will shift to remote work, the news report said. Flagship Food Group is expanding its warehouse and shipping operations in Kansas to accommodate the addition of La Tortilla Factory’s capacity, with expected completion by April, the report said.
