Walmart Announces Plan for New Milk Processing Plant in Valdosta, Georgia

Oct. 12, 2023
Retailer will own and operate the new Georgia facility, which is expected to open in 2025.

Walmart will build a new milk processing facility in Valdosta, Ga., to meet the growing demand of its customers, according to a release published by the company. The new facility will be owned and operated by the retailer, and the company will break ground on it later this year, with an anticipated opening date in 2025.

It is expected to create nearly 400 jobs in the community and help Walmart solidify its supply chain and increase its transparency in sourcing. According to the announcement, the facility will source ingredients from local farmers, then process and bottle a variety of product sizes and types, include gallons, half-gallons, whole milk, 2%, 1%, skim, and 1% chocolate milk — under the Great Value and Member’s Mark brands.

Products from this facility are expected to reach more than 750 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in the southeast U.S. Walmart’s first milk processing facility was opened in Fort Wayne, Ind., in 2018.
