JBS USA announced that it was the target of a cyberattack over the weekend that affected its information technology systems in North America and Australia.
The meat processor said there was no evidence that an information breach had resulted from the attack, which apparently took place Sunday. However, it added that "resolution of the incident will take time, which may delay certain transactions with customers and suppliers."
JBS did not give any further information on the incident, although its being staged on a weekend suggests that it was an attack by ransomware, which incapacitates systems until a ransom is paid. A recent ransomware attack shut down Colonial Pipeline’s operations for six days.
An official with an Australian meatpackers’ union told Bleeping Computer that the attack will keep thousands of JBS employees at home June 1.
