Mars Wrigley to Close Chicago Plant

The plant, located on Chicago's West Side, will be phased out over the next two years.

Mars Wrigley announced this week that it plans to shut down a plant on Chicago's West Side. The plant, which has been operational for nearly 100 years, will be phased out by 2024.

Mars Chocolate North America has been located at 2019 N. Oak Park Ave. in Chicago since 1929. Following Mars’ merger with Chicago-based Wrigley in 2016,  Mars Wrigley established its global headquarters on Chicago's Goose Island while the U.S. headquarters were set up in New Jersey.

“As we continuously evaluate our footprint across North America, our Associates were informed today of the decision to move the majority of operations to other facilities in the U.S. over the next two years,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.

Employees at the Oak Park Ave. plant will be “encouraged to explore the opportunities to apply for open roles across our network, specifically in the Chicago area,” the spokesperson said.
