New Truvía Nectar is the reduced-calorie way to love honey, according to its manufacturer, Minneapolis-based Cargill. It is a blend of Truvia-brand stevia leaf extract with real sugar and honey. It has 50 percent fewer calories per serving than sugar and adds a touch of sweetness wherever you would use agave, sugar or honey. Because Truvía Nectar is twice as sweet as honey, you only need to use half as much.
This new liquid sweetener, with a honey-like consistency, comes in a plastic squeeze bottle. There’s a portable 100g bottle, as well as a kitchen-sized 300g bottle. The suggested retail prices are $3.99 and $6.99, respectively. Truvia Nectar made its debut in May in Hy-Vee, Publix and Target stores.
Truvia Nectar joins four other Cargill Truvia products sold at retail. Truvia tabletop sweetener comes in both packets and a spoonable container. Based on stevia extract, a serving has zero calories. Truvia Baking Blend combines stevia extract with sugar and contains 75 percent fewer calories per serving than sugar. There’s also Truvia Brown Sugar Blend, which is a combination of stevia extract and brown sugar and also has 75 percent fewer calories than brown sugar.
