Oreo Cookie Gets a Gluten Free Update in January 2021

Nov. 17, 2020
The Mondelez-owned brand made the announcement in a Tweet on November 16.

For those people with a gluten intolerance, Oreo cookies are one of the many sacrifices that need to be made in the name of health. Starting in January 2021, however, gluten can no longer be an excuse not to enjoy the cookies.

The Mondelez brand announced in a tweet on November 16 that Gluten Free Oreo cookies would be available in a few short months.

With the addition of the new line, Oreo invites snackers with a gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivities to enjoy our cookies too,” a representative said. The company said it focused on making sure the recipe delivered a “comparable snacking experience to the original recipe. The cookies have been approved and certified by the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America. This means the gluten-free label will be clear on each pack.

Products labeled as gluten-free products are not new. In fact, one of Mondelēz's brands, Enjoy Life Foods, was founded on the 'free-from' concept many years ago. The gluten-free Oreo announcement, however, is rather big for a snack brand that typically rolls out many variations and flavor profiles throughout the years.
