A pet food company that had trouble earlier this year with product contamination is again facing microbial problems.

Midwestern Pet Foods, based in Evansville, Ind., has issued a voluntary recall for 10 brands of cat and dog food due to possible salmonella contamination. The affected brands include CanineX, Earthborn Holistic, Venture, Unrefined, Sportmix, Sportmix Wholesomes, Pro Pac, Pro Pac Ultimates, Sportstrail and Meridian.

The products were all processed in Midwestern Pet Food’s facility in Monmouth, Ill. No harm to pets has been alleged in this incident, unlike an event that took place early this year, in which dog food contaminated with aflatoxin allegedly killed at least 110 dogs. That product was processed in the company’s facility in Chickasha, Okla.

The new recall is the second in a year, but it is also the second in the company’s nearly 100-year history.
