Bob Moore, who founded Milwaukie, Ore.-based Bob’s Red Mill, processor of whole grain oats, baking flours and on-the-go snacks, passed away Feb. 10, 2024, at the age of 94, according to a release from the company.
Moore was described as an entrepreneur whose passion for healthy foods and milling whole grains led to the creation of Bob’s Red Mill in 1978. After initially serving the Portland, Ore., area, Bob’s Red Mill quickly grew into a global food brand, offering more than 200 products in 70-plus countries.
In 2010, Moore established an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which transferred ownership of the company to the employees, and more than 700 of them now own the company. In addition, Moore and his wife Charlee (who passed away in 2018), made substantial financial contributions to Oregon universities, including helping fund the Moore Family Center for Whole Grain Foods, Nutrition, and Preventive Health in Oregon State University’s College of Health and Human Sciences. They also helped establish the Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness at Oregon Health & Science University.
Moore is survived by his three sons, Ken, Bob Jr. and David; daughters-in-law Dora, Barbara, Ashleigh and Terry; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
