A fire at the MillerCoors' packaging plant in Milwaukee on Dec. 14 may have been triggered by a holiday light display, though company officials haven't yet confirmed it. Milwaukee Fire Department crews blocked the street in both directions near the plant and brought the fire they believe was caused by the decorations under control. No injuries were reported.
MillerCoors officials were notified at about 5:45 p.m., and spokesperson Jackie Pride said employees handled much of the small fire themselves.
"They`re trained to extinguish a fire as much as they can -- but the fire department was here very quickly, on the scene within minutes," she said. Still, the initial report of a fire led company officials to stop the entire brewing operation, she added. Production was halted for safety reasons, and all employees were evacuated and accounted for in about 20 minutes, Pride said. The plant then reopened within less than an hour.
"Most importantly, nobody was hurt, and we'll be looking at the cause and investigating that in the days to come," Pride said. Officials reported there was no significant damage.
